Our classes are taught in small groups, giving each child a great deal of personal attention. Children are born as natural yogis, they are extremely flexible. However by the age of three we start to naturally loose our flexibility and we do so faster because of the time spent sitting at tables at preschool.

Imagination is one of the key factors for a successful yoga class. This comes naturally to children. We just try to maintain and develop this. Imagination helps aid concentration and also helps develop creativity. We introduce simple yoga poses through creative story telling and music. Through play and the use of the imagination, we take children on various adventures which allow them to learn about animals, nature and their body parts.

Another element that is vital to our practice is concentration. Through the use of interactive games and animated postures yoga can help improve concentration and maintain focus.

Through concentration children increase their energy levels which in turn enhance their physical abilities. Yoga is not only a wonderful form of exercise as childhood obesity becomes more and more common, but has also been linked to the improvements of asthma, diabetes, ADD/ADHD, insomnia, anxiety and many other health problems. Yoga promotes strength, flexibility, co-ordination and body awareness. Breathing techniques teach children how to focus, relax and develop self control.

Nowadays most physical activities that children participate in are competition based. However yoga is totally different, children work individually or as part of a group. Improvement/success is only achieved through ones own practice. Yoga fits in well with the Montessori ethos; whereby one should ‘follow each child’s individual needs.’ According to Maria Montessori children should not be rewarded or punished. In yoga success is not measured on a grading system there is neither a winner nor a loser.
